Geocache Find #100

#100 in the books! Good times, along the way a few bumps here and there. Found the wrong plane. Missed out on viewing hours to see the car's license plate (but sweet talked the night guard into looking it up for me). Took me two trips to get the fork right. Went thru 3 graveyards to find the gravestone. Overall, #100 was a challenge and I thank you greatly for the chase!

Thanks for taking the pic Claudita!

Geocaching Superstar-dom

That's right - our little Egyptian vacation has spurred some interest from the folks at the geocaching headquarters (groundspeak.com). They have created a series of poster boards that will be used in a traveling GPS exhibit that will be visiting children's museums around the nation! And guess who's on it? Well this picture is part of it - showing the Egypt gang at a geocache in Aswan. Also, there is a more in-depth picture of Dustin and I on our camels in Egypt in this mockup of the panels used in the exhibit. Who thought geocaching would lead to fame haha! dogracer, cache on!

Thanks for your hard work Shuana!

My First Geocache

Click here to see my very first geocache hidden - called 'Junk in the Trunk'. I hid it sunday, and it was posted late yesterday. Within 37 minutes, the cache had already been found by 'HiDude_98' :) These guys are surgically fast - 2 other folks found it within the first 2 hours...

Quick Sax

So I did this pretty unusual geocaching 'series' yesterday. What is a series? A set of small caches that were designed to be found one after another. I started at Quick Sax #1 and found 10 caches in a row. They were really quick and easy to find - and all hidden in the same type of place. Anyway, I couldn't figure out why it was called 'quick sax'. But looking at the google earth map (shown to the left) made it pretty apparent :)

Garmin GPS Software Supported on Mac by end of 2006

This makes me happy. Finally the folks at Garmin will appease the Mac community. I was really frustrated to find out that my Mac couldn't run the software that installs the GPS maps down to my new Christmas present (my new eTrex Vista GPS). I went thru a ton of hoops trying to install Virtual PC on my mac in order to run the MapSource software that would install my maps -- but the installer would never run on the Virtual PC. What a pain. Anyway, looks like the end is in sight; too bad I have to wait until the end of 2006 (they have other procucts that will be mac-ready in spring 2006) but at least the mac versions might be ready by the time i take my Around The World Trip.

My First Day Geocaching

Here's Scott and I, as we embark on a 5+ hour geocaching adventure. He has been three other times, so it takes some time to show me the ropes. But before long, we've found 2 our of the 4 'caches' we were hunting for and I was using the GPS unit to tell me the quickest way to drive home.

Want to know more about geocaching? Click here to go to the official geocaching website which directs the 'sport'. Here's the route (downloaded from the GPS unit itself) we travelled around austin over the course of the day:

Thanks Mom and Dad for the sweeeeeet Christmas present! I will try to make use of it!
